Here’s our recommended items to bring: Bring your own bedding (sheet, blanket, pillow, air-mattress/pad recommended, etc.) and bath supplies (soap, towel, etc.), and a journal/notebook and pen as these will NOT be supplied. Sat/Sun meals and limited snacks, water, etc. will be provided.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
You’ll arrive with other men from around the area… men from different places, different churches, different lives. You won’t be asked to stand up and introduce yourself. There won’t be any camp-games or scavenger hunts. This isn’t an “adventure sport” weekend or a team-building weekend or a “physical” quest… it is a spiritual journey.
We won’t all know each other. Some will come in groups – some will come alone. You will encounter God, individually, personally. There will be sessions of teaching and the speaking team will share stories — and there will be time to spend with God. Time to listen. There will also be some free time for some optional activities. You’ll have opportunities to interact with other men, at your own pace and depth – nothing forced. The atmosphere will be safe, authentic, and relaxed — perfect for a man and his God.
FACILITIES: You will stay in comfortable, dorm-like cabins. Most rooms accommodate between 2-6 men. Most beds are bunk-style. Each cabin has its own bathroom and shower. If you are unable to sleep on a “top bunk” be sure to contact us prior to the event so we may reserve a bed for you. We recommend you bring a PAD or AIR MATTRESS if you can.

IS THIS AN “ADVENTURE” WEEKEND?
LIFEQUESTWEEKEND (and LIFEQUESTWEEKEND | BOOTCAMP) are not “adventure” weekends or “team building” events… they are an invitation to dive deeper into God’s Larger Story and into your story…because in order for a man to find true Life, he must follow God into the deeper places that we too often neglect.

SHOULD FATHERS AND SONS ATTEND TOGETHER?
We leave that up to you with these words of counsel — If you have attended a past LIFEQUESTWEEKEND and feel ready to have your father/son come along, then do so. This weekend is not a Father/Son retreat. We provide an environment and space for each man to meet with God, individually. And we wrestle with some difficult topics, including our relationship with our fathers (especially in the BOOTCAMP). For the LIFEQUESTWEEKEND (especially the BOOTCAMP), we’ve found it is helpful for first-time attenders to have space to process individually with THE father. As with all things, pray about it and see how God leads.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY “BOOT CAMP“?
We refer to the weekend as a “Bootcamp” weekend because it will be a very intentional time away… time to meet with God… to get your heart back… to get back what God meant when He made you. As John Eldredge says, you are in a sacred romance set in the midst of a fierce battle… a battle for your heart. You have an enemy… and he does not want you to take back what he has stolen from you. So, fight for it! Resist busyness and chaos. Resist doubt. Resist the temptation to allow relational and financial pressures to stop you from coming. Resist feeling disqualified. Resist the temptation to discount the importance of this event in your life. (Many have already fallen prey to these attacks.)
It will be worth it! Go to the PREPARATION page for more tools to help you ready yourself for the battle for your heart.
IS THIS AFFILIATED WITH A SPECIFIC CHURCH OR DENOMINATION?
LIFEQUESTWEEKEND is not affiliated with any specific church or denomination. Our message and our team hold to orthodox Christian views, but this retreat is not about recruiting or church-building. Our goal is to provide a non-”religious” environment for men to hear from God, regardless of denominational and theological boundaries. When the retreat is over, we encourage men to return to their home-churches and form real, meaningful connections with other men on the journey.
TELL ME ABOUT THE LQW TEAM
We are men on a journey, just like you. And, part of our journey is to bring this bootcamp to you — our small network of men’s singular purpose is to BRING LIFE to men and women. We come from different churches and backgrounds and are united in our desire to help each other find real LIFE! So, what you get may not be perfectly polished, but it will be real and God-driven.
We believe Jesus’ ministry of Healing, Freedom, Release, Strengthening, and people becoming displays of God’s splendor* is something we see as PRACTICAL, AVAILABLE, and POSSIBLE. We want to see men and women set free to live out the calling God has placed in them.
In light of this mission, we keep very active in pursuing issues of the heart. We walk in the messages outlined by John Eldredge and the WildAtHeart.org team, Morgan Snyder (Becoming a King), Gary Barkalow (Calling), and others.
* as outlined in Isaiah 61, Luke 4:16-19
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LQW AND LQW | BOOTCAMP?
Both the LIFEQUESTWEEKEND and the LIFEQUESTWEEKEND | BOOTCAMP are not adventure weekends. They are both similar in heart — but the BOOTCAMP is different from the retreat in format and content. Both the LIFEQUESTweekend | BOOTCAMP and the LIFEQUESTWEEKEND are very unique and special. Both provide a space for men to be men, learn about what it means to be a man, and deal with the issues men face. It’s all set in a non-religious atmosphere and creatively focuses our attention on the Father, allowing him to help us recover and live from a restored heart.
A main difference between the LIFEQUESTWEEKEND and the BOOTCAMP is that the LIFEQUESTWEEKEND gathering provides a special, less formal, more conversational environment, sitting with experienced trail-guides and others to invite the Fathering of God. The environment invites small groups of men to unplug, pause, and engage with the Father and each other. You’ll have time with God, but also adds opportunities to ‘unpack’ with a few others what we’re learning and engage in meaningful and practical ways throughout the weekend.
LIFEQUESTweekend is a ministry modeled after John Eldredge’s Wild at Heart Ministry and his team (Bart Hansen, Craig McConnell, Morgan Snyder). We at LIFEQUESTweekend are inspired, encouraged and trained to move forward into our calling and great missions by The Noble Heart (Gary Barkalow) and others.
