Are you connected with others? Do you have a few intimate allies? People with whom you can share your stories and listen to theirs? THIS IS CRITICAL TO YOUR SURVIVAL. We can’t tell you in a few words how to do this. But for us, it started with a simple prayer — “Jesus, bring me a good friend.” If you would like to talk to one of us about how you might find a friend or two, reach us via the “Contact” form.

This is Our Blog. We write about a variety of topics in an open/honest style. Our goal is to help others live their lives in freedom and full of genuine strength and purpose.
A friend said to me, “I would do what God wants me to do, if only He’d tell me what it is.” This is so often the cry of the heart. We have the desire to live the life that God created us to live, we just seem to be missing the clarity as to what that is.

There is a path leading to authentic manhood, cut by men who have gone before us, sons following in the footsteps of their fathers, generation after generation. There are perils along the trail, even disasters―all the more reason to rely on the guidance of a Father who has gone before.
But in an age when true fathers are in short supply, how do you find the path to manhood? How do you steer clear of the dangers?
John Eldredge calls men back to a simple and reassuring truth: God is our Father. In life’s trials and triumphs, God is initiating boys and men through the stages of manhood from Beloved Son to Cowboy to Warrior to Lover to King to Sage.
Fathered by God maps out the path of manhood―not more rules, not another list of principles, not formulas, but a sure path men have followed for centuries before us.
Find that path and become the man God sees in you.
ITS YOUR CALL by Gary Barkalow
This is the best book on “Calling” I’ve ever read.
Gary Barkalow also has several other RESOURCES and RETREATS available to help you discover and deploy your calling.
Discover God’s calling for your life …
Few spiritual concepts have fascinated and confused people more than understanding God’s calling for their life. Is it primarily about a job or a role? It is precise or general? Is a calling only reserved for those who work in professional ministry?
The truth is actually amazingly profound: What we are supposed to do is what we most want to do.
This is a guide for discovering God’s design and destiny for your life. Drawing from over 20 years of experience in ministry, Gary Barkalow shares how you can:
Live alert and oriented to the voice and choreography of God.
Discover and interpret the voice of your own story.
Discern the strategic assault against your calling.
Recognize God’s intentional training in your life’s journey.
Most of all, you’ll be inspired to let the glory of your life touch the world around you.
Richard J. Foster’s Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth is hailed by many as the best modern book on Christian spirituality with millions of copies sold since its original publication in 1978.
In Celebration of Discipline, Foster explores the “classic Disciplines,” or central spiritual practices, of the Christian faith to show how each of these areas contribute to a balanced spiritual life.
Foster, the bestselling author of several books (Prayer and Streams of Living Water) and intrachurch movement founder of Renovaré, helps motivate Christians everywhere to embark on a journey of prayer and spiritual growth.
When Walt Harrington was first invited to Kentucky to hunt with his African American father-in-law and his country friends–Bobby, Lewis, and Carl–he was a jet-setting reporter for The Washington Post with a distaste for killing animals and for the men’s brand of old-fashioned masculinity. But over the next 12 years, this white city slicker entered a world of life, death, nature, and manhood that came to seem not brutal or outdated but beautiful in a way his experience in Washington was not. The Everlasting Stream is the absorbing, touching, and often hilarious story of how hunting with these “good ol’ boys” forced an “enlightened” man to reexamine his modern notions of guilt and responsibility, friendship and masculinity, ambition and satisfaction.
In crisp prose that bring autumn mornings crackling to life, Harrington shares the lessons that led him to leave Washington. When his son turned 14, Harrington began taking him hunting too, believing that these rough-edged, whiskey-drinking men could teach his suburban boy something worthwhile about lives different from his own, the joy of small moments, and the old-fashioned belief that a man’s actions mean more than his words.
The Everlasting Stream is a funny, intimate, inspiring meditation on the meaning of a life well lived.
WILD AT HEART
Have you read the book Wild-at-Heart? It isn’t mandatory for attending, but we can tell you from first-hand experience that it is the best way to prepare yourself for what you will experience. [Book, Audio, Kindle]
If you’ve already read Wild-at-Heart — consider reading it again. Read the updated version. My first time reading through it was good… but God used even more during my second time through. And, if you have not yet read Wild-at-Heart — read it.
This retreat is based on “Wild at Heart Boot Camps” hosted in Colorado by John Eldredge and the Ransomed Heart team. These retreats are based primarily on the concepts found in Wild at Heart. You will get more out of the retreat if you already have this information under your belt and have already begun to allow it to sink in. But more importantly… you should read this book because it sets the stage for an awakening.
We will use the concepts in Wild at Heart as an outline to walk you into the next stage of your masculine journey. (And by “Masculine Journey” we mean the journey that you as a man are on, whether you knew it or not. It is a journey requiring specific information and action that can only be found in the company of other men.) We will intentionally step into the issues that face us as men… and we will find that life will be better, we will be better, and our lives will never be the same again.
Life, for most of us, feels like a movie we’ve arrived to forty minutes late.
Sure, good things happen, sometimes beautiful things. But tragic things happen too. What does it mean? We find ourselves in the middle of a story that is sometimes wonderful, sometimes awful, usually a confusing mixture of both, and we haven’t a clue how to make sense of it all. No wonder we keep losing heart.
We need to know the rest of the story.
For when we were born, we were born into the midst of a great story begun before the dawn of time. A story of adventure, of risk and loss, heroism . . . and betrayal. A story where good is warring against evil, danger lurks around every corner, and glorious deeds wait to be done. Think of all those stories you’ve ever loved—there’s a reason they stirred your heart. They’ve been trying to tell you about the true Epic ever since you were young.
There is a larger story And you have a crucial role to play.
Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” That’s the offer of Christianity, from God Himself. Waking the Dead will help you find that life, see the fierce battle over your heart, and embrace all that God has for you. [Book, Kindle, and Audio Download]
